Chattanooga has announced the signing of midfielder Leopoldo Hernández to its 2024 squad, pending league and federation approval.
Hernández played his collegiate years at Taft College and UC Riverside. While at Taft College, he started in 19 of 20 matches played and registered four goals and five assists, one of which was the game winning goal. Hernández transferred to UC Riverside for his junior and senior year where he registered a total of 2,816 minutes in 2021-2022 combined. He had four goals and 11 assists and started 36 out of 38 games for the Highlanders. Hernández, originally from Sacramento, California, was also a part of Sacramento Republic FC’s academy system.
Most recently, Hernández spent the 2023 season with Los Angeles Force, appearing in 21 games and registered 1,473 minutes with one assist.
“I am beyond excited to be joining the Chattanooga Red Wolves for the 2024 season. I hope to contribute to this club’s success and create unforgettable memories along the way! I am eager to call this place my home. I can’t wait for the season to begin, and I hope to see you all at CHI Memorial Stadium!” said Hernández.
“Leopoldo is a player we are very excited about,” said head coach Scott Mackenzie. “He had a great college career at UC Riverside, a great first year at LA Force and has all the qualities needed to be a top midfielder in this league. He can pass, dribble, defend and create. We are excited to have him onboard.”
The Chattanooga Red Wolves will begin their 2024 season on the road against Lexington SC on Saturday, March 15th before returning to CHI Memorial Stadium for their home opener on Saturday, March 30th. Season tickets are available to purchase online here.
