CHATTANOOGA, TN. (September 24th, 2021) – This Friday afternoon, Chattanooga Red Wolves SC have announced the signing of forward David Texeira, pending league and federation approval. 

The 30-year-old comes to Red Wolves with the most impressive international resume in USL League One, having over 11 years of Eredivisie, MLS, Süper Lig, and Primeira Liga experience. Texeira started his career in 2009 with Uruguayan top-team Defensor Sporting where he made 22 appearances and scored 6 goals over two seasons and got the U-20 Uruguay national team call-up to compete in the 2011 U-20 FIFA World Cup. 

After an impressive breakout season, Texiera was transferred to topflight Eredivisie club, FC Groningen. During his three seasons with Groningen, Texeira was featured in 65 games and recorded 14 goals playing alongside current Liverpool FC center back, Virgil van Dijk. His impressive record caught the attention of a potential Liverpool transfer that would have seen Texeira play alongside fellow countrymen, Luis Suarez.

Texeira then joined MLS side FC Dallas as a Designated Player after his spell in the Netherlands. Over the course of two seasons, Texeira played 41 games and scored 10 goals before making his way back to Europe to play for Turkish Süper Lig team, Sivasspor. After a season in Turkey, he then made his way to the Portuguese Primeira Liga making appearances for Vitória Guimarães and Moreirense. During his time in Portugal, Texeira accumulated 40 appearances and 9 goals.

“David’s playing career speaks for itself so having him with us as we push for a 2021 Championship is a huge benefit to us,” says Red Wolves President & GM, Sean McDaniel, “Not only does his success on the field help the Club, but his leadership in the locker room is just as important. He’s played on some very big stages and we are thrilled to have him with the Red Wolves.”

He’s a great guy and the players have really taken to him, he’s incorporating into the group,” says Obleda on David’s transition into the locker room. “The guys are very excited to have him around, he’s already changed the training environment. We look forward to him bringing all the things he has done in his very successful career to us; on the field, off the field, and inside the locker room. We couldn’t be happier with this signing for the remainder of the season.”

In line with the objectives of the team, we’re here to win the championship,” says Texeira on his integration to the Red Wolves squad. “The squad is great, they’re very united, currently in first place and have been doing an excellent job since the beginning of the season. I’m here to add my grain of salt to help the team and that at the end of the season we succeed in becoming the USL League One champions.”

The first place Chattanooga Red Wolves will be hosting New England Revolution II at CHI Memorial Stadium Saturday September 25th kick off is set for 7pm. The match will feature a postgame viewing of the East Ridge Centennial Fireworks funded by the Chattanooga Red Wolves which can be perfectly viewed for your seat in CHI Memorial Stadium. David Texeira will be available for selection starting next week. 

Earlier this year, the Chattanooga Red Wolves signed on to fund and sponsor the East Ridge Centennial Celebration Fireworks Show on the night of September 25. 

The Chattanooga Red Wolves Fireworks Show will cap off a day of celebration for the City of East Ridge, marking 100 years of existence for the city. The show start time is slated for 9pm and will feature one of the largest displays that the city has ever seen. 

Fans in attendance of the Chattanooga Red Wolves match that night vs New England Revolution II will have a perfect vantage point to view the East Ridge Centennial Fireworks show funded by the Chattanooga Red Wolves from their seats in CHI Memorial Stadium after match. Differing from the post game fireworks show after the club 8/21 match, this weekends show will take place across the interstate and will feature significantly larger firework shell and double the time duration making for an incredible show and end to a days worth of celebration.

CHATTANOOGA, TN. (September 18th, 2021) – The Red Wolves welcomed North Carolina FC to CHI Memorial Stadium, the den, Saturday night looking to get back to winning ways. In a shift to the starting XI, the Red Wolves changed it up by bringing in Ronaldo Pineda to play at right back with Jonathan Ricketts shifted out to the left. The first half started out with both sides growing into the game well, but neither side managed to break down resolute backlines. The half trudged on under the floodlights, and while the Red Wolves managed to pile on pressure on the visiting side, Nick Holliday stood tall in the NCFC goal.

The second half started, and no one prepared for what came next! The action started in the 53rd minute when Obleda’s men found a well-deserved breakthrough following an electric start to the first half. Jonathan Ricketts got on the end of a beautiful ball from Marky Hernandez, and the pass was only bested by the shot that was put into the top right corner to open up the scoring for the night.

The Red Wolves didn’t relent after the goal and were immediately rewarded with a second goal. Ricky Ruiz found Juan Galindrez in the box, who showed brilliant footwork and an even better strike hammering home the effort for 2-0. Minutes later the Red Wolves would come inches away from a third, but the ball to Ruiz was cleared off the line by NCFC.

In the 69th minute North Carolina FC would get one back, as Luis Arriaga slotted home to make it 2-1. Then, only a minute later, Marky Hernandez would get on the end of a moonbeam pass across the field and made no mistake in making it 3-1. The Red Wolves would continue to apply pressure, and Marky Hernandez would almost be rewarded for his efforts chipping an off-his-line Nick Holliday, but it went just wide of the post.

After some frantic action in the rain at CHI Memorial Stadium, the match would finish 3-1 putting the Red Wolves back in sole possession of first place in USL League One. A slick performance from the Red Wolves in the second half, especially in the attacking third, was propelled by a fantastic supporter base. Rain or shine, the Red Wolves thank supporters for carrying the team to the finish line.

The Red Wolves return home next Saturday, September 25, at 7 PM EST to face the New England Revolution II.

After an impressive record breaking 15-game undefeated streak, the Red Wolves still remain undefeated at home. Red Wolves return to the fortified confines of CHI Memorial Stadium Saturday night playing host to North Carolina FC. The last time out for the Red Wolves was a frustrating outing in Greenville against the Triumph, where the away side was agonizingly sent down to 10 men only 25 minutes into the game for a questionable red card decision against Sebastian Capozucchi.

No matter for a Red Wolves side that has preached battling through adversity all season long, and now they look to get back to bounce back against 12th place North Carolina. The side showed great fight back and intensity even down a man for most of the match in Greenville, with Jonathan Ricketts being awarded a Team of the Week nod for his dynamic play on both ends of the pitch. The Red Wolves doubled Greenville’s shots on target at a tally of 4-2, won more duels, more aerials and intercepted more passes on the night in what was an aggressive and high pressing performance that unfortunately did not yield the result it deserved.

While it is fair to say that things have not fallen the way North Carolina might have wanted in the 2021 campaign, there is still plenty of life left in John Bradford’s side. Supporters at WakeMed Soccer Park were rewarded with an exemplary performance on Saturday night in a 4-1 thrashing of the New England Revolution II. 

In a vintage performance, club legend Nazmi Albadawi turned back the clock scoring a brace in his 165th appearance all time for the club. Bright young star Jay Tee Kamara added a goal in the match alongside as did Josh Coan in a comprehensive victory. It was a solid performance in front of net as the home side turned in 4 of their 6 shots on target, while Nicholas Holliday had a bright day in goal keeping out 5 of New England’s 6 shots on target. 

There are important ramifications for both sides coming into the match Saturday night disregarding placements in the table. Although North Carolina currently sit bottom of the league, they remain only 8 points out of a playoff spot with 8 games to go and perhaps may look to make a late season push. On the other side of the pitch, the Red Wolves sit joint top of the league with Union Omaha and will want to secure 3 points Saturday night to keep the rest of the league at bay to secure home-field advantage in the playoffs. 

Jonathan Ricketts and his battle against youngster Jay-Tee Kamara will be one to watch on Saturday night, as the homegrown right back looks to carry on in what has been a dependable and shining season for the homegrown talent. Manager Jimmy Obleda will look to his other defensive options in place of Sebastian Capozucchi, with dynamic left back Jonathan Esparza looking likely to get the nod. Ricky Ruiz will also be a man to keep an eye on for the Red Wolves, having created 40 chances so far in the 2021 campaign he will be eager to breakdown a defense that has given up 34 goals in 20 games so far. 

Manager Jimmy Obleda has challenged fans saying, “We need our supporters to come out this weekend and make the environment as supportive and challenging as possible.” Undefeated at CHI Memorial this season, the bond between supporters and their squad has lifted the Red Wolves to lofty heights. Now, the Red Wolves call on those supporters to be the 12th man in the homestretch of the campaign.

GREENVILLE, SC. (September 11th, 2021) – The Red Wolves travelled to South Carolina Saturday night to take on 2020 Champions Greenville Triumph SC looking to extend their historic unbeaten run to 16 games having not lost in over 3 straight months. Throughout the first 20 minutes of the match, the sides played evenly but with little to note in the attacking third. However, the good start to the half for the Red Wolves would be undone in the 24th minute, when Sebastian Capozucchi was shown a red card for a very innocuous challenge on Aaron Walker, whose reaction to the foul seemed to bait a red out of the referee. While his boot was high, there was minimal contact and as always, the defender has a right to the ball.

Reacting to the red card, Manager Jimmy Obleda was forced to sacrifice forward Jackson Dietrich in the 27th minute for Jonathan Esparza who slotted in Capozucchi’s place. The effects of the red card were felt merely two minutes later, as Allan Gavilanes fed in Joshua Donnelly who slotted past Tim Trilk to make it 1-0 to the home side. After a slow end to the first half, the Red Wolves looked to turn up the heat bringing on Ronaldo Pineda and Blake in place of Ualefi and Juan Galindrez.

In the 58th minute the Red Wolves would find a piece of good fortune, or two pieces for that matter as Don Smart was shown 2 yellows inside of 3 minutes bringing Greenville down to 10 men. 5 minutes later Chattanooga’s offensive onslaught began. Jonathan Esparza whipped in a wonderful cross met by a towering header from Jonathan Ricketts, but the Greenville Goalkeeper did well to save the effort. He would be called into action 6 minutes later as Blake Frischknecht made a fantastic move to get past the defenders and stung a shot into the hands of the Triumph goalie. The Red Wolves continued to make changes and pile on the pressure late in the match, but were unable to find the late equalizer.

It was a hard fought second half, as the Red Wolves piled on pressure and worked hard to keep the Triumph on their heels. It was a game where the away side will feel hard done by the referees, as they dominated and peppered shots at the Triumph goal even down a man. Even though the streak was snapped, the record shattering 15-game undefeated run deserves plaudits from supporters and the club alike. A truly sterling accomplishment and a testament to the work the squad has put in since the beginning of the campaign. Despite the result, the Red Wolves remain at the top of the USL League One table tied for first place.

The first place Red Wolves Look to Rebound Next Saturday Night, as North Carolina FC Travels to CHI Memorial Stadium.

CHATTANOOGA, Tn. (September 8th, 2021) – North Texas travelled to CHI Memorial Stadium Wednesday night for a matchup against Jimmy Obleda’s Chattanooga Red Wolves. Both teams came into the match nursing impressive unbeaten streaks, with the home side looking to build on a record-breaking 14 game streak while North Texas looked to get to 10 straight without a loss.

The first half of the match saw some stop and go action at CHI Memorial, as both sides attempted to get a foothold in the game facing stellar defenses. The Red Wolves got great production from Jimmie Villalobos in the first half, partnering well with Ualefi and Jose Carrera-García in the middle of the park. Coming off two straight clean sheets, Tim Trilk continued his dominance in goal for the home side, including a wonderful save in the 27th minute to deny a sure North Texas goal. Despite both sides finding their footing in the last 20 minutes of the half, neither side could find a breakthrough as they went into the half tied at 0-0.

The second half started with a substitution from Manager Obleda, bringing on super-sub-Marky Hernandez in place of Jackson Dietrich who worked hard in the first 45 minutes. The Red Wolves would grow to control the match more in the second half, looking very good in their midfield press while demonstrating the ferocity of their counterattack. It looked like the Red Wolves had found the breakthrough in the 71st minute after Marky Hernandez tucked a cross beautifully into the side netting, but the offside flag went up. Needing fresh legs Obleda turned to his bench once again bringing on Josue España for Ualefi and Blake Frishcknecht for Juan Galindrez.

Right after the substitution, Frischknecht immediately made his impact getting his head on a cross, the ball fell to Marky Hernandez who was unbelievably denied at close range by Colin Shutler. After a goalkeeping showcase from Tim Trilk in goal the previous 15 minutes, Obleda looked to change the dynamic of the match by bringing on Ronaldo Pineda in the 90th minute. However, as North Texas has become accustomed to, the Red Wolves would not give up.

For the third time this campaign, the Red Wolves found a stoppage time goal against North Texas, and it was Jimmie Villalobos on the end of a beautiful cross from Jonathan Ricketts. The man of the match’s goal would prove to be decisive, and an absolutely crucial three points for the Red Wolves would bring their unbeaten run to 15 games and put them in sole possession of first place in USL League One.

The Red Wolves return to CHI Memorial Stadium Wednesday night for a midweek home matchup against North Texas SC. After battling for two hard earned road points against Toronto FC II and Fort Lauderdale, Obleda’s side has extended their run of unbeaten games to fourteen. In the match against Fort Lauderdale homegrown product Jonathan Ricketts starred for the Red Wolves, winning seven duels, and completing three dribbles on his way to being named a part of the USL League One team of the week. 

After the two matchups on the road, the Red Wolves sit tied for first place in the table, with North Texas SC giving the home side an opportunity to take back sole ownership of the league’s top spot. With a full squad back available after the Toronto matchup, the Red Wolves ramped up the pressure in the final third bombarding Fort Lauderdale’s goal with sixteen shots, putting 7 on target. While the winning goal didn’t come, the squad will be encouraged by how they pressed high up the field and put real pressure on a talented Fort Lauderdale side. In addition, Manager Obleda would have been thrilled with the backline and Tim Trilk’s performance, shutting down the highest scoring team in the league on the road to keeping a second clean sheet in a row. 

Taking a deeper dive into the analytics, you can see the Red Wolves game plan paying off when they didn’t have the ball. They clogged the pass lines very well Friday night, coming up with 17 interceptions compared to 7 from Fort Lauderdale. Obleda’s side also won the aerial battle on the evening, winning 10 out of 17 aerial duels. That tenacity off the ball will continue to boost the side and has played an integral part of the Red Wolves’ 14 game unbeaten run.

While the Red Wolves know a thing or two about unbeaten runs, it seems Eric Quill and his side are following in their footsteps. The away side comes into Chattanooga boasting a 9-game unbeaten run, with the last 4 matches all ending in draws. North Texas has seen the Red Wolves twice in those 9 games, both at Globe Life Park. However, both matches ended in late heartbreak for North Texas, as Jackson Dietrich found a stoppage time winner in the first matchup which was then replicated by Juan Galindrez in the second matchup. 

North Texas faced FC Tucson in their last matchup Saturday at Globe Life Park in Arlington, where a 77TH minute goal from leading goal scorer Kazu was cancelled out by Tucson’s Deri Corfe only four minutes later. While their nine game unbeaten run has placed them in a good spot going into the final stretch of the season, North Texas might come to rue their string of draws in a playoff race that is one of the tightest professional soccer in the United States has ever seen. However, Quill and North Texas will feel good about their shot conversion rate, which has done its part in propping up an attack that has created the fewest shots in the league. Their ability to be clinical in the final third has kept them in the playoff hunt though, along with conceding only an impressive 23 goals.

The matchup Wednesday night simply speaking features two teams that perform very well on both sides of the ball. North Texas and the Red Wolves sit tied for second in the league with 28 goals scored, while the Red Wolves edge the defensive race with only 19 goals conceded to 23 from North Texas. 

A win for North Texas would move the Arlington outfit into 3rd place in the league, while a Red Wolves win, or draw would once again bring with it sole ownership of the league’s top spot in a playoff race that continues to heat up. It will not be easy for either side on the attacking end of the pitch however, with North Texas going 5 games in a row without conceding more than 1 goal and the Red Wolves outstanding 9 in a row conceding 1 goal or less. 

Midweek excitement at CHI Memorial brings with its fair share of perks, this week it is the return of $2 beer night, with tasty brews being served all match long. In addition, it is Educator Appreciation night, and Chattanooga Red Wolves SC is asking fans to bring school supplies Wednesday night to support Hamilton County Teachers.

The Red Wolves travel to Fort Lauderdale off what was arguably the most impressive result of the season Friday afternoon in Toronto. Manager Jimmy Obleda could only name a 14-man roster due to travel restrictions, with the 3-man bench including Park City Red Wolves man Alec Marshall and goalkeeper Sebastian Mora-Mora who was given an outfield jersey due to the lack of numbers. 

Despite the obstacles in place, the Red Wolves controlled the game brilliantly, creating most of the chances and limiting a TFC II side laden with MLS talent to few opportunities at Tim Trilk’s goal. The Red Wolves battled valiantly with a heavily rotated side and snuck out of Toronto with a record breaking and all valuable point. 

Now the side look forward to Fort Lauderdale CF, who after a decent start to the season have picked up their form somewhat and find themselves third in the table. When asked about the matchup, Obleda said, “A very good Fort Lauderdale team, coming off a big win, they are riding high off their success as well.” He also preached the importance of the Red Wolves taking advantage of their chances in the final third, something they weren’t able to do with their 4 shots on target Friday in Toronto.

Fort Lauderdale Cf, managed by Darren Powell, come into the match against the Red Wolves Saturday evening with a home record of 4-2-4. Good for 8th best in USL League One. The home side will be ready for the long-awaited rematch with Obleda’s Red Wolves, after suffering defeat in May at CHI Memorial Stadium thanks to a late Jason Ramos winner in stoppage time. 

While the side from Florida will not have enjoyed bearing witness to the birth of the Cardiac Red Wolves, they have been enjoying their two top goal scorers. Shaan Hundal and Mitchel Curry lead the way with 7 and 6 goals respectively, while George Acosta sits tied with Ricky Ruiz for the USL League One assist lead at 7. Fort Lauderdale also holds the unique individual lead for yellow cards, with Roberto Poplawski leading the league following 8 yellow cards. 

Their last matchup saw a thrashing of Tormenta in South Georgia, where Powell’s side led 4-0 late into the second half before conceding two late goals to Azaad Liadi. Acosta scored a brace in that matchup, and his now 10 goal contributions have been vital to Fort Lauderdale’s attempts to make the playoffs.

The Red Wolves have a chance to increase their gap over Union Omaha to 5 points at the top of the league, with the Nebraska side coveting their two games in hand. Fort Lauderdale meanwhile could also begin to separate themselves from a middle-heavy USL League One table with a win which would put them on 28 points. 

The Red Wolves will welcome being back in the United States Saturday, with a full complement of players available for selection once again. They will need all men on deck for the highest scoring attack in the league from Fort Lauderdale, who have scored 31 goals in 20 games this campaign. On the defensive side of the ball, the Red Wolves boast the second-best defense in the league only having conceded 19 goals so far. Meanwhile, Fort Lauderdale continues to ride the extremes leading the league not only in goals scored, but goals conceded with 33.
