CHATTANOOGA, TN. (August 6th, 2022) – The Red Wolves were back in the friendly confines of the den
on Saturday night following a win on the road against Central Valley Fuego FC in a midweek matchup.
The match saw a lengthy weather delay before kickoff, but the squad was raring to go from the opening
whistle.
Josue Cartagena would get the match going in electric fashion in the third minute, getting on the ball off
a deflection and scoring a wonderful goal from outside the box that whizzed past the Greenville keeper
to put the Red Wolves up 1-0. The second goal would come just four minutes later from a beautiful
phase of play. Juan Galindrez raced down the endline, whipping a perfect cross that bounced beautifully
along the box and right to the feet of Jimmie Villalobos on the edge of the goal line who tapped home
with ease to increase the lead to 2-0.
The 17th minute would see the visitors get on the board via a Red Wolves own goal that would cut the
scoreline to 2-1. Juan Galindrez and Rey Ortiz would both come close in the next 5 minutes to increase
the score once again, but their efforts were narrowly missed. The Red Wolves would see the last chance
of the half in the 42nd minute, as Juan found Rey Ortiz who fired at goal but his effort was saved as the
sides went into the half with the Red Wolves up 2-1.
The second half would see a lively Red Wolves side looking to increase their advantage, but despite
several well worked passages of play the score remained 2-1. Rafa Mentzingen would come on in the
60th minute to replace Rey Ortiz, and seven minutes later Alex Tejera would follow to replace Juan
Galindrez.
The 70th minute would see a goal of the season candidate from Moe Espinoza, who cut onto his left foot
from outside the box and curled the ball beautifully into the top right corner off of an assist from captain
Jose Carrera-Garcia. The Red Wolves would make their third sub of the evening minutes after the goal, as
Nico Cardona came on for Dj Benton.
In the 85th minute Mentzingen would put the game out of reach following a corner, as he latched onto
the rebounded shot and fired into the goal to make it 4-1. Rafa wasn’t done however and would score
his own golazo in the 89th minute, arching an audacious chip over the Greenville keeper to put the home
side up 5-1.
A match that saw a 2 hour weather delay, audacious goals, and an absolute five-star performance from
the Red Wolves moved the club up into third place in the league with an away trip to Forward Madison
coming up on Saturday.
