Chattanooga will cap off a stretch of three matches in one week by facing off against USL League One newcomer, One Knoxville S C. This first meeting will be the only one held at CHI Memorial Stadium with the remaining two to be played at Regal Stadium in Knoxville.
The series as a whole has been dubbed the “Smoky Mountain Smackdown,” an homage to the mountain range running along the eastern corner of the state.
This season is Knoxville’s first season in USL League One after one season at the USL Two level. In addition to the in-state rivalry, Knoxville also signed former Red Wolves midfielder Jimmie Villalobos on January 3, 2023. Villalobos appeared in 32 matches for Chattanooga in 2022, registering four goals and two assists.
The Red Wolves enter this match after a frenzied and high intensity game against Central Valley Fuego FC on Saturday, April 1st that ended as a 1-0 loss for the Red Wolves. Chattanooga had many opportunities to get on the board and saw marked offensive improvement from their home opener on March 25. Despite an offensive onslaught throughout the match, the
Red Wolves were held at bay by a stout Fuego defense and key saves from goalkeeper Mitchell North.
