Chattanooga, TN. (Oct. 5th, 2023) – Today the Chattanooga Red Wolves have announced that Scott Mackenzie will become the club’s full-time Head Coach & Technical Director, removing his interim tag.
Mackenzie, born in Dunfermline, Scotland and raised in Derby, England joined the team from the Chattanooga Red Wolves USL League Two affiliate Park City Red Wolves, where his squad three-peted as Division Champions with many of his players going on to play in the MLS, USL Championship and USL League One. Mackenzie holds a USSF A License, UEFA B License, USSF Instructors License along with various other licenses and certifications.
“One of the biggest advantages we have with Scott is that he’s been an integral part of the Red Wolves soccer culture for quite some time,” says Red Wolves GM & President Sean McDaniel. “He knows exactly the style of high paced, entertaining soccer our fans have grown accustomed to. We already have a number of top players in our pipeline that are eager to play for Scott and the Chattanooga Red Wolves. We are building off a strong 2023 finish and are very encouraged with our start to 2024 and Scott is a big reason for that.”
Since taking the reins of the Chattanooga Red Wolves in August Mackenzie’s squad has averaged 2.09 goals per game, higher than the season-long goals per game of any other USL League One club. Mackenzie’s squad is also coming off of a nine point September, collecting the 4th most points in the league during the month and now has two goals scorers notching 10 or more goals in a season, the first time in club history.
“I feel like there has been a real change in the culture, from a team that was at the bottom of the table to a team that is capable of competing against every team in this league, that is fun and exciting to watch and that is capable of winning games,” says Mackenzie when asked about the recent form of the team.
The team has their last home game of the season this Saturday before hitting the road for an October 15th match to end the season before heading into the short USL League One offseason.
“We want to continue to build a strong culture, a Red Wolves way that puts hard work, commitment and joy at the forefront of everything we do,” says Mackenzie when asked about his vision for the remaining matches and into the offseason. “We want to continue to develop an identity of a front foot, forward first club. An identity that is exciting for our fans to come out and support every week and allows us to compete at the top of the league. During the off season we will look to strengthen our squad and make sure that 2024 is a much brighter year for the Red Wolves.”
For Mackenzie, Chattanooga has quickly become a favorite of his. “My time here in Chattanooga has been great, it is a fantastic city and part of the country, lots of beauty and history. The people of Chattanooga are great, very friendly and welcoming, I couldn’t ask for a better place to work every day.”
The Chattanooga Red Wolves Home Finale is this Saturday at 7:30pm at CHI Memorial Stadium against Greenville Triumph SC. The match is Pink Out! Themed with all ticket proceeds being donated to the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center to aid in their battle against Breast Cancer. The match also features pregame live music and a post match fireworks show.
