In the 2019 season, Steven Beattie put away 9 goals accompanied by 3 assists in 24 matches including a brace against Tormenta FC and a hattrick against 2019 finalist Greenville Triumph.
“Having Beattie in the lineup strengthens us in every aspect,” says Head Coach Jimmy Obleda. “He’s a quality player, person and leader. From a tactical aspect, having the leading scorer from last year on the field again is huge. From a personal aspect, it’s great for the players to have their captain back.”
Although he’s a key figure on the pitch, Chattanooga’s captain and veteran leader offers more to the team than just sensational stat lines. Having played in Ireland’s Premier League and the Europa Champions League, Beattie is one of the most experienced players in USL League One. Beattie’s experience and knowledge has proven to be a valuable tool when it comes to leading the team off and on the pitch and mentoring Chattanooga’s up and coming talent. Having been injured since the end of the 2019 season, Steven looked to utilize his recovery time as an opportunity to focus on helping guide his teammates.
“I was just trying to be there as a mentor for the younger guys,” says Beattie. “I made myself available to answer questions and tried to help them the best I can. I feel they asked me a lot which I love. They’re a great group to be involved with and their desire for continual progression speaks volumes to their dedication to this team. There already has been great progress within the team in terms of chemistry and development.”
The return of the 2019 leading scorer could not have come at a better time for the team. While Chattanooga has been arguably the most entertaining team in the league thus far, as of late they’ve been struggling to capitalize on the team’s electrifying offensive style of play. With the return of the team’s 2019 leading scorer added alongside the dynamic duo of Greg Hurst and Marky Hernandez, Chattanooga looks to open things up offensively headed into this Saturday’s home match against New England Revolution 2.
The next match for the Chattanooga Red Wolves will be at home against New England Revolution II which is an MLS affiliate club. Fans should expect to see Beattie play as he transitions back into his role as an offensive threat for the Red Wolves. The club looks to continue their streak of three consecutive sellouts to four this week and tickets can be purchased at https://bit.ly/CHAvNE2. The atmosphere of CHI Memorial Stadium has been electric and with the help of our loyal fans the team will defend the den during the upcoming match against New England Revolution II on 8/29.
