The Red Wolves look to get back to winning ways on Saturday night as they travel to Richmond to face the Richmond Kickers. The last time out at CHI Memorial Stadium a spirited and high energy Red Wolves side was once again left frustrated by refereeing decisions.
However, there are plenty positives to take from the matchup last Saturday night, as Obleda’s side out shot, passed, and held more possession than the Revolution falling victim to an unlucky late goal from Damian Rivera. Coming off the loss last weekend the Red Wolves still sit first in the USL League One standings as well and have a chance to build on that lead in Richmond Saturday night.
New signing David Texeira is featured in the squad’s 18-man roster in Richmond, bringing European as well as MLS experience and bolstering an already dangerous Red Wolves attack. The Uruguayan center forward voiced his excitement in joining the club saying, “I’m so happy to be here, to get this new opportunity with the club and my teammates.”
Darren Sawatzky’s Richmond Kickers currently sit 9th in the USL League One standings, but in a league full of parity they will feel a couple results could put them in the playoffs come the end of the 2021 campaign. A massive late goal from Emiliano Terzaghi in stoppage time against Toronto FC II went a long way in keeping them in touching distance of those above, and in the process snapped a two-game losing streak.
Goals from Terzaghi have not been uncommon for the Kickers this season, as the Argentine center forward now leads the league with 13 goals. His 15 total goal contributions mean he has been involved in over half of Richmond’s goals this campaign, and he will be a key man to watch and will provide a tough test to a Red Wolves backline that has been difficult to break down all season long.
Richmond has been a two-headed monster as far as form goes in the 2021 campaign, with one head much stronger than the other. They have lost only once at home in 11 tries so far this season, while their away form has bogged them down to the tune only 2 wins from 11 games.
The Red Wolves will relish the challenge however, as Obleda’s side has made a point to keep good away form throughout the season dropping only 2 of the 10 road games so far this season.
The action kicks off from City Stadium in Richmond at 6:30 PM EST, as the Red Wolves travel to Richmond to face the kickers under perfect weather conditions for soccer in another crucial match with playoff implications.
