The Chattanooga Red Wolves SC plan significant changes to CHI Memorial Stadium by increasing capacity to 6,000 and upgrading the home field to natural grass from synthetic turf.
“As our stadium continues to be one of the top soccer facilities in the country, we will consistently be adding more amenities and features,” said Caroline McWhorter, president of the Stadium Development Company. “Additional seating and replacing synthetic turf with natural grass are significant investments and create even more opportunities to invite an elevated soccer experience to Chattanooga.”
The stadium enhancements exceed the requirements for USL Championship level of professional men’s soccer and Division I professional women’s soccer. It also opens the door to more opportunities with professional, national and international teams, whose preference is to play on natural grass.
“The top soccer stadiums across the world utilize natural grass on the pitch. CHI Memorial Stadium continues advancing the highest standards only found in the best soccer-specific venues worldwide,” said Red Wolves President and General Manager. “Even more impressive is the fact that professional Clubs can now play the beautiful game on a natural surface mostly reserved for the best soccer stadiums, right here in the Scenic City.”
“An influx of visitors coming to watch these additional games and events will create a major economic benefit for the Chattanooga market area, Hamilton County and the entire tri-county region,” said Bob Martino, owner of the Red Wolves and an international real estate developer. “These visitors will stay in Chattanooga’s hotels, eat at local restaurants and shop with retailers in the region.”
Renovations will begin in the last quarter of the year after the close of the Red Wolves’ season.
