WHAT TO WATCH FOR AND WHAT TO EXPECT
Chattanooga continues their stretch of road games this week with their first meeting against the Richmond Kickers at City Stadium in Richmond, VA. The Red Wolves split the three match, regular season series against Richmond in 2022 and beat the 2022 regular season champions in the League One Semi-Final on October 29, 2022 by a score of 1-0. The 2023 series begins on the road for Chattanooga at Richmond on July 1st and will end at CHI Memorial Stadium on August 12th.
The Red Wolves look to get back in the win column this match after a 3-0 road loss to Charlotte Independence on Saturday, May 27th. While Chattanooga outshot Charlotte 13-8 and led in shots on target 6-3, their opponent managed to convert their three shots into goals, while Chattanooga’s offense was held off by strong play from the Independence defense and goalkeeper.
Richmond comes into the match on the heels of a 1-1 comeback draw with South Georgia Tormenta FC on Saturday, May 27th in Statesboro. While South Georgia dominated in shots, Richmond held them to one goal in the 45th minute before adding one of their own to tie in the 57th. They managed to hold off Tormenta through the final whistle despite being a man down due a red card issued to Zaca Moran for the last nine minutes of the match.
Chattanooga returns home on Wednesday, June 7th to take on Forward Madison for the first time in 2023 at CHI Memorial Stadium for $2 Beer Night featuring post match fireworks.
ADDITIONAL INJURIES HINDER RED WOLVES OFFENSE
The Red Wolves will be without more key offensive players with Alex Tejera and Moe Espinoza marked as questionable for this week’s matchup while Mekeil Williams will also be missing from the backline. Andrew Paoli and Christian Enriquez remain unavailable due to ankle injury as well as Yahir Paez out for a foot injury.
