The Chattanooga Red Wolves have announced the 2024 technical staff joining Head Coach & Technical Director Scott Mackenzie. Additional members of the staff include Jimmy Weekley returning as Assistant Coach and Head of Scouting and Luke Winter as Assistant Coach and Academy Sporting Director.
“I’m really happy with the staff we have assembled,” said Mackenzie. “Each member of staff holds the values that I feel are important as we build this club short and long term, and each member of the staff brings unique high level experience, from college, pro, and youth development. This is a staff that brings great quality to our team and has strong ties and connections to the city of Chattanooga, something strategically we felt was important as we continue to build our presence in the community.”
Scott Mackenzie returns to the club for his first full season in 2024 as Head Coach and Technical Director after officially being announced in the role at the conclusion of the 2023 season. He initially took over coaching duties for the first team midseason, leading the first team to an average of 2.09 goals in August, higher than the season-long goals per game of any other USL League One club. Mackenzie’s squad also had a nine-point September, collecting the fourth most points in the league during the month and ended the season with two goal scorers notching 10 or more goals in a season, the first time in club history.
Jimmy Weekley will return to the technical staff as Assistant Coach and Head of Scouting. Weekley led the Chattanooga Red Wolves to the USL League One Championship in 2022 after coming in as interim head coach in August of that season.
“Jimmy is at this point a stalwart of the club: his experience and knowledge of the league and the club are invaluable, he has great qualities on the grass and in the locker room and will provide a great boost to our technical team as we plan for success in 2024 and beyond,” shared Mackenzie.
Luke Winter, another long standing member of the Chattanooga Red Wolves, will hold the title of Assistant Coach and Academy Director. Winter has been the head coach of the USL W Chattanooga Lady Red Wolves since 2021 and led the 2023 squad to a 8-3-1 season. He has also been involved in the Chattanooga Red Wolves academy system since its inception and most recently serving as Academy Sporting Director, which he will continue to do.
“One of the things I wanted to make sure happened when I was brought on as technical director was to make sure that there is great synergy between our youth club and pro team. Bringing Luke into the first team staff provides a great day-to-day connection with our youth club. In addition, he has great experience as a college head coach and a track record of working with top top players,” said Mackenzie of Winter’s role in the Path to Pro connection within the Red Wolves organization.
The Chattanooga Red Wolves will begin their 2024 season on the road against Lexington SC on Saturday, March 15th before returning to CHI Memorial Stadium for their home opener on Saturday, March 30th. Season tickets are available to purchase online here.
