CHATTANOOGA, TN. (September 25th, 2021) – The Red Wolves welcomed the New England Revolution II to CHI Memorial Stadium on a beautiful night in the Scenic City. The Red Wolves came out with high energy sparked by Marky Hernandez inside the opening two minutes, who had a shot saved by the New England keeper.
A special night for veteran midfielder, Ualefi, made his 50th appearance in a Red Wolves uniform. An incredible milestone and first of its kind for a Red Wolves player. His talent on the field and what he brings to the field never go unrecognized and the Red Wolves organization couldn’t be prouder of his accomplishments.
The energy kept up as the Red Wolves peppered shots at goal with Ricky Ruiz putting shots on goal and also creating opportunities for Blake Frischknecht up top, who came close himself in the first half. The energy was high for the Red Wolves who unfortunately saw Jorge Luna come off in the first half due to injury, replaced by Sebastian Capozucchi.
It didn’t curb the momentum however as Jonatahn Ricketts went close and Marky Hernandez whacked the woodwork with a great effort in what would have been an incredible goal. At Halftime the score was 0-0 but manager Jimmy Obleda would have been happy with the performance of the home side, who held 61% possession and had 9 shots in the first half.
The second half saw New England come out with a flurry of efforts on Sebastian Mora-Mora’s goal, but the Red Wolves backline held firm. The Red Wolves then created chances of their own through Ricky Ruiz and Juan Galindrez, who kept pressing hard to score. The high energy match unfortunately had some sting taken out of it when the Red Wolves fell victim to a double yellow for Sebastian Capozucchi, who was dismissed for two cards inside two minutes.
The Red Wolves fought hard but came up short in stoppage time when Damian Rivera fired a low shot past Sebastian Mora-Mora to make it 1-0. The final whistle would go, with the Red Wolves dropping their first match at CHI Memorial Stadium after an impressive 11 month long undefeated run at home since the beginning of the season.
