           The Chattanooga Red Wolves will be back at CHI Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, August 12th to take on Union Omaha in a matchup between two of the remaining three unbeaten teams in USL League One. Kickoff is set for 5:00 PM EST, as both teams will be looking to deliver the other their first loss of the season. This will be a hard fought matchup, as both teams have displayed their abilities to score goals and defend well. The Red Wolves (1-0-2) will enter the match ranked 3rd in the league while Union Omaha (2-0-1) holds the narrow advantage in the tables ranked 2nd, making this match a top 3 showdown. This will be a tough challenge for the Red Wolves, as Union Omaha is coming off of two consecutive wins and is starting to gain momentum. The Red Wolves will defend their new home in CHI Memorial, in an attempt to pick up their second win on the season and stay undefeated at home as both teams will be looking to separate themselves and gain advantage over the other in League play. Founded in 2019 and making its debut season now, Union Omaha is new to the League and looking to make a statement, and the Red Wolves are going to do everything possible to defend the den. In order to go 2-0-0 in their new stadium, the Red Wolves will need to address 3 points of the week.

            Union Omaha has proved to be a dangerous team already in their debut season and has caught the eyes of everyone in the league by handing North Texas FC, the defending League One champions, their first loss of the season on August 1st. The Red Wolves will need to create and put away chances early in the game in order to hold off Omaha, who has shown that they are a second half team capable of winning in a tough environment on the road. Union Omaha has scored all three of their goals this season in the second half, which shows that they have depth and will be able to play with high energy for the full 90 minutes. Omaha has been able to find a way to win close games, and the Red Wolves will need to show up ready to put away their chances and finish out the game while limiting Omaha’s second half success.

            Another key point to the game is defending the den and keeping a clean sheet. The Red Wolves won their inaugural home opener against FC Tucson last week 1-0 securing a clean sheet, meaning that they have not yet conceded a goal in CHI Memorial and in front of home fans, and they will not want to start on Wednesday. The back line did a good job of trapping North Texas FC offsides multiple times early in the game on Saturday, but they let in a late goal in the 87th minute that could have potentially lost them the game. Late game focus and mental toughness to finish out the game, as well as creating early chances like the Red Wolves displayed in their home opener, will be very important for success on Wednesday. The Red Wolves will have another opportunity to play well in a brand new stadium with an incredible environment and support, and they will do everything they can to hand Coach Obleda his second career professional win and to put on a great showing for the fans.

            Greg Hurst has had an electric start to the season so far, scoring in all three games, including notching the first ever goal in CHI Memorial Stadium. He has made the team of the week multiple times, and with 4 goals and an assist, he has been an outstanding performer. He has made himself known all over the league, and is currently the top scorer. His performances and weekly recognitions however, will make him a target among coaches. Omaha will likely look to shut Hurst down on Wednesday, as many teams will begin to look to contain him specifically. Hurst will be looking to add onto his goal tally and keep separating himself as the best goal scorer and the league, but another key to the attack will be getting other players involved as well. Marky Hernandez scored his first for the club to secure the draw on Saturday against North Texas, and Coach Obleda will likely look to get other players on the scoresheet as well. The Red Wolves have plenty of talent going forward, and they will be looking to utilize it and reach their full attacking potential. On the other side of the ball forward Ethan Vanacore-Decker and defender Luke Hauswirth will be notable players to take watch of. They will be one of many head to head match ups to watch as the run of play develops. 

            The Chattanooga Red Wolves will be working hard for Wednesday, where they will try to put on their best performance for the organization, in an effort to make CHI Memorial Stadium one of the hardest places to come and play. Even though there is no history between the Red Wolves and Union Omaha, this matchup will prove to be one of the best in the league so far, and will be an opportunity for one of the teams to establish themselves as one of the best sides in the league. The Chattanooga Red Wolves are scheduled to kick off the second home match of the season at CHI Memorial Stadium on Wednesday at 5:00 PM EST in a clash against the #2 team in the league, Union Omaha. The Red Wolves are currently trailing Omaha by just 1 spot, sitting 3rd in the league ahead of this week’s top 3 matchup, and they will be looking to pass Omaha and establish themselves as one of the best teams in the league. The Red Wolves are eager to get back to their home stadium for this week’s game after a long weekend on the road in Arlington, Texas. After last weekend’s successful inaugural home opener, the Red Wolves will strive to pick up another to make it the second in CHI Memorial history.

            The Red Wolves (1-0-2) are going into the game unbeaten and looking to pick up 3 points, while Union Omaha (2-0-1) will give it their all to maintain their unbeaten streak as well. The Red Wolves are coming off of a dramatic 2-2 draw on the road against North Texas FC, which saw 2 goals and a red card, all in the last five minutes of the game. Chattanooga was able to walk away from Arlington with a point, despite North Texas holding 63% possession of the game. Top scorer in the league, Greg Hurst, was able to open up the scoring only 2 minutes into the game for the Red Wolves, on a beautiful through ball that was lobbed over the backline by Josue Soto. The Red Wolves went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage, but North Texas tied it up shortly thereafter early in the second half. Beni Redzic, 17 year old goal scorer from Texas, was able to bag his second of the match in the 87th minute what was seemingly the game-winner, but Marky Hernandez answered immediately and drew the score even, seconds after the restart of the game. A long ball was played and collected by Hurst who laid it off to Marky. Marky drilled it past the keeper to ruin the night for North Texas.

Union Omaha just picked up their first road win in club history on Saturday against FC Tucson, making it their second consecutive victory. Omaha beat North Texas FC 1-0 last week, and Tucson 2-1 on Saturday, scoring all three goals of the season in the second half. Union Omaha has proved that they can be dangerous going forward in the attack, but they also have demonstrated a strong defense, and have only conceded one goal so far this season. They are a well-rounded team that is learning how to battle on the road, and they will try to make the most of the opportunity to separate themselves from the Red Wolves, who are right behind them in the league standings.

Both teams will be prepared to battle against each other for the first time in history, in CHI Memorial Stadium. Because these teams have never faced each other, neither team knows exactly what to expect. The Red Wolves want to welcome Omaha to the league by handing them their first loss of the season, and Chattanooga will battle to keep the clean sheet and defend the den, as they have still yet to be scored on in CHI Memorial Stadium. The Chattanooga Red Wolves were well aware going into Saturday night’s game that the defending champions, North Texas FC, would be a very talented and dangerous side. The Red Wolves were up for the challenge however, as they were able to pull out a draw on the road at Globe Life Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Coach Obleda mentioned after the inaugural home opener that in order to improve in tough games, the Red Wolves had to take advantage of early chances and put them away, and that is exactly what his side did on Saturday.

The Red Wolves opened the scoring just 2 minutes into the game, as Josue Soto played a through ball over the top to Greg Hurst, who was able to bury it on his first attempt. The goal was the 4th of the season for Greg Hurst, which separates him from Jake Keegan of Greenville Triumph as top scorer in the league. The Red Wolves followed the goal by creating dangerous chances immediately, putting pressure on the North Texas defense. The Red Wolves played an excellent first half both offensively and defensively, going into the break with a 1-0 advantage. The defense even managed to catch North Texas attacker’s offsides three times in the first half, while playing a very high line.

North Texas was able to flip the script in the second half, however, grabbing a goal off of an excellent cross to tie the game up 1-1 in the 46th minute. North Texas, a notably possession oriented team, was able to control the ball for the majority of the second half, slowing and dictating the run of play. The Red Wolves struggled to get very much going in the second half offensively, but continued to hold the score even, until the substitute, Beni Redzic of North Texas, scored his second of the night to put North Texas ahead 2-1 with 3 minutes to go in the game. The header goal came in the 87th minute of play, and seemed as if it had won them the game. Three minutes was plenty of time for the Red Wolves to pull off an equalizer, however, as Marky Hernandez scored off of a direct attack in the 88th minute, immediately after the kickoff. From the kickoff, a long ball was sent up field, collected by Hurst, who slipped in Marky Hernandez, the 56th minute substitute, for his first goal of the season to bring the game level again. The equalizer shocked North Texas as it came only seconds after they had taken the lead, and defied the run of play.

Neither team was able to score a game winner in the four minutes of stoppage time that the official added, but this period was not without its drama as well. Gibran Rayo of North Texas was sent off in the third minute of stoppage time after, yet another, late tackle. The Red card was issued after a hard foul, one of many of the match from Rayo. As the final whistle blew, the score remained 2-2, and the Red Wolves were able to salvage a point on the road against a worthy opponent in North Texas FC, who held 63% possession of the game. North Texas Forward, Beni Redzic, only 17 years old, was awarded man of the match after an impressive two goal game in order to put him on the heels of league top scorer, Greg Hurst. Hurst also played yet another fantastic game with a goal and an assist bringing him to 4 goals on the season. Marky Hernandez and team captain Josue Soto also had excellent performances, as Soto had an assist and was the heart of the midfield while Marky picked up a crucial goal.

The unbeaten Chattanooga Red Wolves will be back at home in CHI Memorial Stadium to host Union Omaha on Wednesday at 5:00 PM EST. A great night of soccer and late game drama in Arlington for Chattanooga sets up a showdown against Union Omaha, one of the last remaining three undefeated teams in USL League One including Chattanooga. The Chattanooga Red Wolves are set to take on North Texas Soccer Club in their third matchup of the season this Saturday on the road. Kickoff is set for 9:00 PM EST, as the Red Wolves will try to improve their unbeaten streak to 3 games. This is yet another key matchup for the Red Wolves, because it provides an opportunity to flip the script on a team that got the better of them in the 2019 season. It is also a chance to hand the defending champions their second loss in a row and it would help to solidify the Red Wolves as a threat to be reckoned within the league. As we head into this matchup, the Red Wolves (1-0-1) sit in 3rd place in the League One standings and 2nd in the Week 3 Power Rankings, while North Texas SC (1-1-0) holds 5th place in both. The Red Wolves will be looking to gain ground on Greenville Triumph and Tormenta FC, who both are ranked ahead of the Red Wolves with a game in hand. In order to keep up the good form for the Red Wolves, there are three key players who will need to continue to step up.

It is no secret that Greg Hurst knows how to get into dangerous positions and score goals. He has three goals on the season in just two games and maintains an extremely impressive conversion rate of 75%. He is tied with Jake Keegan of Greenville Triumph for Top Scorer in the league, and has scored 3 goals on only 4 shots. He is proving to be extremely effective in front of goal, converting nearly every chance he gets. Coach Obleda will surely be looking to get Hurst more chances. It will be an important game for Hurst because it will provide him with the opportunity to separate himself from Jake Keegan of Greenville, as the lone Top Scorer, as well as the chance to increase his scoring streak to three games in a row.

Another key to the match is Red Wolves defender, Leo Folla. Folla orchestrated an incredible defensive effort last weekend in CHI Memorial Stadium, earning him Week 3 Team of the Week honors. Folla has started both games this season and has made himself a huge defensive presence. North Texas SC has a very good attacking side, and Folla’s leadership and organization of the backline will be a huge factor in the outcome of the game. Folla picked up a yellow card in last weekend’s matchup against FC Tucson in what proved to be a very physical game, but he was able to finish out the game without picking up a second and help secure the clean sheet in the inaugural home opener.

Marky Hernandez will be a very important factor in the upcoming match as well, as his speed and creativity make him an exciting player to watch. Hernandez has had a significant role in the attack in recent games, but he will be hoping to get himself on the score sheet this weekend. The Red Wolves will look to create more diversity in the attack this weekend, and hopefully, get some new players on the scoresheet. So far, only Hurst has scored in 2020 for the club, but this weekend will provide the opportunity for other attackers to score and create more attacking scenarios.

It is important that the Chattanooga Red Wolves put forth a strong effort this weekend to pick up an important three points on the road. The Red Wolves started off their season with a strong performance away at Tormenta, but were disappointed to concede a goal against the run of play in the dying moments of the game to draw a game they wanted to win. The Red Wolves will look to not repeat this, and to finish the game strong against the defending champions. The club’s recent acquisition, Tanner Dieterich, is undergoing safety protocols currently and will arrive at training camp on Monday. Dieterich is the Red Wolves’ first MLS transfer and hails from Nashville SC and is a Tennessee native who has represented the U.S. national team at the youth level. He will be a player to watch as he assimilates into our midfield, and the club is excited for what is to come in regards to Dieterich.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (August 6, 2020) – The Chattanooga Red Wolves reach an agreement with MLS Nashville SC to acquire Midfielder Tanner Dieterich on loan.

Tanner Dieterich, 22, is a Tennessee native who was selected by Nashville SC as the 28th overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft on Feb. 25, 2020. Dieterich, a Clemson soccer alum, was a three-year captain of the team and notched 75 appearances over the course of his collegiate career. Additionally, he was a member of the USA U-17 World Cup squad in Chile. 

Dieterich will report to camp late this week and, after adhering to health and safety guidelines set forth by the club and USL, is expected to join the squad for regular training next week. The club expects great things to come from Dieterich as he will contribute to the team’s evolving dynamic of youthful energy and proven experience. 

“Tanner is a great addition to our roster.  He has a great level of experience playing at the highest levels which we hope will transcend with us. We are looking forward to him being another piece of the puzzle that will help us be successful in League One“, says Head Coach and Technical Director Jimmy Obleda. 

“Having Tanner in Chattanooga is an important milestone for our club,” says Red Wolves President and GM Sean McDaniel. “This loan from Nashville SC and Major League Soccer will create an environment that we believe will pay dividends for both clubs. We expect Tanner to join our training environment immediately following the USL protocols once he enters the Chattanooga market. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Nashville SC and Tanner as we push ahead for a championship season.”

The USL League One season is up for grabs, and the race for the title has never been more exciting. As the Chattanooga Red Wolves sit near the top of the table, the new addition of Dieterich will aid the club in their conquest for victory. As the team enters into Week 4 of the season it has become a battle for the independent clubs and a new acquisition such as Tanner Dieterich will only bolster the 3rd ranked Red Wolves.

The Red Wolves will hope to pick up their first win on the road this weekend, at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas. This will be a League One top 5 matchup, as the Red Wolves enter the game placed 3rd in the league, while North Texas SC trail by just two spots, at 5th place. The Red Wolves (1-0-1) are unbeaten going into the weekend after picking up a point on the road in their opening game against Tormenta FC, and also winning their first home game against FC Tucson. North Texas SC on the other hand, lost 1-0 to Union Omaha on Saturday, after picking up a win against Forward Madison FC bringing them to 1-1-0 on the season. After a historic weekend marking the inaugural home opener in CHI Memorial Stadium, the Chattanooga Red Wolves have a ton of momentum that will carry into this weekend’s game. The Red Wolves put on an impressive performance in their last game against FC Tucson with a valiant defensive effort that completely shut down FC Tucson’s offense. This proved to be a hard-fought physical matchup that contained 44 overall fouls and 11 yellow cards, but in the end, the Red Wolves found victory. The environment at CHI Memorial was remarkable with a fantastic fan turnout, a great atmosphere, all topped off with an inaugural win to launch the Red Wolves and the city of Chattanooga into this new era.

The game ended 1-0 in favor of the Red Wolves, after Greg Hurst notched his third goal of the season after slotting one past the FC Tucson keeper in the 53rd minute of the game. There was never a dull moment in this matchup, and perhaps the most pivotal point in the match came when Alex Mangels came up with a huge penalty kick save, to give Chattanooga the momentum they needed to finish out the game. Chattanooga was able to quell a very desperate and attacking team with a strong defensive effort, ultimately securing the three points. North Texas SC is coming off of a loss to Union Omaha, who were able to find victory against the defending champions.

In 2019, North Texas got the better of the Red Wolves on the season winning two out of three matchups. In March of 2019, the Red Wolves played North Texas SC in their first ever game as a new club, and lost a very tight game, 3-2. The Red Wolves bounced back however in the next matchup between the two teams, pulling out a 1-0 win at home in August. North Texas SC however, won the tiebreaker later in August, with a 2-0 win on the road against the Chattanooga Red Wolves. North Texas SC went on to end the season at the top of the table with a record of 17-6-5, becoming the USL League One Champions, while the Chattanooga Red Wolves ended the season 10-8-10, sitting 5th in the standings.

The Red Wolves will be eager to redeem themselves this season as they have a stronger squad, a new home stadium, and a point to prove. They will look to improve their unbeaten streak to 3 games, and to get the better of North Texas SC this season. It will prove to be difficult as North Texas SC has an affiliation with FC Dallas, a notable team in the MLS. With FC Dallas being out of the MLS playoff race it would not come as a surprise to see a high caliber team of both FC Dallas and NTX players faceoff against the Red Wolves. Nonetheless, our boys from Chattanooga do not shy away from stiff competition but rather use the opportunity to rise to the occasion. With August 1st marking Tennessee’s first sporting event held with fans since the lockdowns, the first ever game in Tennessee’s first pro soccer stadium CHI Memorial Stadium, and the first time the 2020 Red Wolves roster plays at home, it was clear that it would make for a historical night for Chattanooga.

The list of firsts continued into the locker room; Head Coach Jimmy Obleda was looking for his first professional victory, local Chattanooga Jonathan Ricketts was playing his first professional game at home, multiple players were making their pro debuts.

 “Going in, we all knew we had to get out there and deliver for our city, our fans, and each other,” says Obleda who is in his first year with the club. “We’d been waiting for this moment for a long time and we were ready.”

The squad put on a great display in front of the sold out socially distanced crowd. Forward Greg Hurst bagged the first ever goal in CHI Memorial Stadium and now leads the league in scoring. Goalkeeper Alex Mangels saved a late PK and etched the first ever clean sheet in the new venue. Coach Obleda got his first pro win and, lastly, the team brought home the first 3 points of the season with the 1-0 victory.

Since the win, Chattanooga has climbed to #2 in the nationwide power rankings as the team crests the hill from Week 3 going into Week 4. In the USL League One standings they sit in third behind only Tormenta FC and Greenville SC who both currently hold a game in hand advantage. 

The team hits the road later this week for Saturday’s match against reigning champion North Texas SC. In the last matchup of 2019 between the two sides, North Texas rostered and started five FC Dallas MLS players against Chattanooga. There are good chances that they will utilize MLS players in this weekend’s match up as well and we will get to see how the Red Wolves match up against MLS level talent. Regardless, Coach Obleda and the team will arrive with one goal in mind and that is to leave Texas with three points. The Chattanooga Red Wolves played in a physcial match up against FC Tucson during the historic CHI Memorial Stadium home opener. During the match, both Greg Hurst and Leo Folla were stand out players that have since been recognized by USL League One for their outstanding performance. 

The Red Wolves solidified a 1-0 victory over the visiting FC Tucson with a goal scored by Greg Hurst while in a crowded 18-yard box. The ball was in the air, and Hurst was able to gain control and slot it inside the near post. The remaining thirty-five minutes consisted of hard-fought aerial duels and accurate passes to maintain control of the game. Leo Folla helped lead the defensive line in this endeavor and aided the team see out the win. USL League One Team of the Week – Week 3

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One announced the Team of the Week Presented by Cleer Audio for Week 3 of the 2020 regular season on Tuesday, with South Georgia Tormenta FC’s Nil Vinyals earning Player of the Week honors for his stellar performance against Orlando City B on Saturday night.

Vinyals recorded both goals in Tormenta FC’s 2-0 victory at Erk Russell Park as part of a tremendous all-around display that saw him also record two key passes, complete 42 of 45 passes overall and win 6 of 8 duels to lead South Georgia to its first victory of the season.

USL League One Team of the Week – Week 3

GK – Akira Fitzgerald, Richmond Kickers: The veteran shot-stopper recorded an eight-save shutout to earn the Kickers their first point of the season in a scoreless draw against South Georgia Tormenta FC on Tuesday night.

D – Christian Diaz, Forward Madison FC: Diaz completed 35 of 41 passes, won 9 of 15 duels, made three clearances, completed 2 of 2 dribbles and recorded one key pass in Madison’s scoreless draw with Greenville Triumph SC. 

D: Stefan Mueller, South Georgia Tormenta FC: Mueller helped Tormenta FC claim two shutouts, recording one assist and five chances created in attack while winning 5 of 7 duels and completing 95 of 111 passes. 

D: Leo Folla, Chattanooga Red Wolves SC: Folla made four interceptions, three recoveries and completed 28 of 36 passes to help the Red Wolves post a shutout in its victory against FC Tucson on Saturday night.

D: Diama Viader, Union Omaha: Viader won 10 of 14 duels, made five interceptions and won 3 of 4 tackles as Omaha posted a shutout in its inaugural home opener against North Texas SC at Werner Park.

M: Nil Vinyals, South Georgia Tormenta FC: Vinyals scored twice on three shots on goal and had two key passes while also completing 42 of 45 passes overall and winning 6 of 8 duels and recording seven recoveries defensively.

M: Luca Mayr, South Georgia Tormenta FC: Mayr recorded 10 shots overall and four shots on goal and recorded one assist on three key passes in attack, while winning 3 of 4 duels defensively.

M: Aaron Walker, Greenville Triumph SC: Walker completed five key passes and 44 of 55 passes overall, completed 3 of 3 dribbles, and recorded nine recoveries and two interceptions in Triumph SC’s 0-0 draw with Forward Madison FC. 

F: Ethan Vanacore-Decker, Union Omaha: Vanacore-Decker had one assist and four key passes for Los Buhos as they claimed victory in their inaugural home opener at Werner Park against North Texas SC. 

F: Evan Conway, Union Omaha: Conway scored the lone goal in Union’s first victory in club history against North Texas SC, writing his name into the club’s record book as Omaha’s first goalscorer.

F: Greg Hurst, Chattanooga Red Wolves SC: Hurst scored the first goal in CHI Memorial Stadium to lead Chattanooga to victory in its first game at its permanent home, and made five recoveries while winning 3 of 4 aerial duels defensively.

The Chattanooga Red Wolves put on an impressive performance on Saturday to pull out an important victory over FC Tucson in their inaugural home opener in CHI Memorial Stadium. The win did not come easily, however, as the Red Wolves had to battle for the 3 points. The game proved to be an extremely hard-fought physical matchup with a combined 41 fouls between both sides, resulting in 11 yellow cards. The win was the first of its kind in the new home of the Red Wolves, which saw many fans and a thrilling environment in the stadium.

         The win is the first of the season for the Red Wolves, after a draw on their opening night on the road against Tormenta FC. The first half was a battle for possession as both teams fought to dictate the momentum of the game. It was very evenly matched and while both teams created solid chances, the match remained scoreless at halftime. Early in the first half, however, the Red Wolves were able to capitalize on a great chance when Greg Hurst settled a ball out of the air and was able to tuck it away off the touch to put the team ahead in the 53rd minute. The goal was the third of the season for Hurst, who scored both goals in the season opener.

         The second half saw more opportunities for FC Tucson, who were awarded a penalty kick after goalkeeper Alex Mangel’s fouled an oncoming FC Tucson forward in the 69th minute. Mangles’ stepped up to make a huge save, however, denying FC Tucson the chance to equalize and giving the Red Wolves the momentum to finish out the game earning him the clean sheet. A solid performance from the backline enabled the Red Wolves to keep FC Tucson from putting away any chances, securing the win. This included an incredible effort from the defense that iced off 6 closing minutes of the clock in the corner against a tired FC Tucson attack, taking all momentum out of the game for FC Tucson. The Red Wolves had many players step up to the plate, including Uchenna Uzo, who came in the game early off of an unexpected injury to starting outside back, Jonathan Ricketts.

         Coach Obleda was thrilled to pick up his first professional win on Saturday, and start off the team’s home record exactly how he hoped and anticipated. He was very impressed with his team’s incredible ability and maturity to finish the game and close it out. “Today was a tremendous team effort and I couldn’t be happier for them (the team and the fans). We finally got that first win and now let’s keep going” said Obleda in his post-game interview. Saturday also proved to be a monumental day for Greg Hurst’s career, not only because he has improved on a scoring streak, but also because he became the first person to ever score a goal in CHI Memorial Stadium. After the game, he said, “It is a big moment for the club, not just for the players. First game in the new stadium, we wanted to start things off right. We wanted to make our statement. It’s going to be difficult to come here and win.”

Saturday’s performance brings the Red Wolves to 1-0-1 in league play. The Red Wolves are set to kick off on Saturday, August 8th against North Texas SC in an away matchup, make sure to tune in on ESPN+.
